Seedlings Volunteers

Volunteer Information

Each week during the sermon, our youngest kids (5 and under) have the opportunity to go out with volunteers for a craft, snack, and Bible lesson. Our children's team takes care of all the prep work so all you have to do as a volunteer is show up and lead the lesson.  There are always at least two adult volunteers and there are usually some youth that help each week and are familiar with the process and children.

Our Children's Team Leaders, Abbey Clayton and Tracy Langston, will send you the lesson the week before you lead Seedlings.  The lesson will list the Bible story, snack, video/song, and craft.  All materials are provided and set up in the classroom for you.  Feel free to use the lesson as is or tweak it to fit your style.  (ex. If you have a children's book that fits the story, feel free to bring it and read it!  If you don't, NO WORRIES!  We'll have what you need!)

What happens during Seedlings?

  1. After the first set of songs during worship, the children will meet you at the back door following the worship set, and you will take them to the appropriate classrooms.  The youth usually help with this, and sometimes parents prefer to bring the child to you.  There are classes for age 0-1, 2-3, and 4-5.
  2. Once in the classroom, you can pass out the provided snack and water (there is a sink in the classroom to fill the cups with - cups are on the shelf).  While the children eat, you can get to know them, talk to them about their week, and read the Bible story.
  3. After they finish their snack, children will begin to work on the provided craft.  Assist the children in the craft and help write their name on it if needed.
  4. If time allows, the children can play with the toys in the cabinet (blocks, chalk, bubbles, etc.) or play games (Simon Says is a crowd favorite!).
  5. As the sermon wraps up, do a quick clean up of the room, make sure the trash is in the trash can, and push the chairs under.  Line the children up at the door and ask them to hold their bubbles (a deep breath held in their mouth to keep their voices quiet while walking down the hall back to worship).  When the sermon is over and the music begins, walk the children back into worship and help them find their parents - the youth are great at helping with this!

Is there anything else Seedlings Volunteer need to do?

In efforts to help parents/guardians feel comfortable and ensure everyone feels welcome, we ask that Seedlings volunteers arrive 20 minutes before worship starts to greet young children at the door!  There is a greeter from the greeter team that is responsible for greeting everyone, but Seedlings volunteers will also assist and pay particular attention to young children and their grown ups at the children's entrance.  All children who are planning to stay in Seedlings should have their grown up fill out an information sticker label and place it on the child's back.  This will help you remember their name and any allergies.  These stickers can be found on the table by the children's door.

You can also tell children about the worship bags located on the rack in the hall - these canvas bags have fun activities to keep children busy during the worship gathering.

On the day you volunteer, you can find a "Seedlings Volunteer" lanyard hanging on the cart of canvas worship bags.  Please locate this lanyard and wear it while greeting and volunteering with our Seedlings.

Background Checks for New Volunteers

We prioritize the safety of our children, so we ask that all adult volunteers complete a background check and review our Working with Minors policy. If you haven't volunteered before, please email Abbey Clayton, our Children's Team Leader, so that she can work with you to ensure all necessary paperwork has been completed. We promise, this added step is quick and easy!! We APPRECIATE our volunteers!
